Goldman Sachs achète la société de bourse Spear Leeds and Kellogg

New York - La banque d'investissement américaine Goldman Sachs va acheter la société de bourse Spear Leeds and Kellogg. La transaction se monte à 6,5 milliards de dollars (11,57 milliards de francs), dont 4,4 milliards de dollars en actions Goldman Sachs et le reste en cash.

Il s'agit de la première acquisition de la banque d'investissement américaine depuis son introduction en bourse en mai 1999. Spear Leeds and Kellogg est un «market specialist» (teneur de marché), fondé en 1931, a précisé lundi Goldman Sachs.

Spear Leeds and Kellogg assure également des activités de compensation. Selon Goldman Sachs, il s'agit de la première société de compensation américaine en terme de volume, le premier teneur de marché sur la bourse de New York et le troisième sur la bourse électronique Nasdaq.

En acquérant Spear Leeds and Kellog, Goldman Sachs suit l'exemple de l'un des ses principaux concurrents, Merrill Lynch. ce dernier avait racheté en juin Herzog Heine Geduld, troisième société de bourse sur le Nasdaq, pour environ 910 millions de dollars par échange d'actions.
